This document describes how to set up Amanda (The Advanced Maryland Automatic Network Disk Archiver) on Debian Etch. For this tutorial I chose Ubuntu v7.04 as a backup-client. The resulting system provides a flexible backup system with many features. It will be able to back up multiple hosts via network to various devices. I chose the disk based backup for this howto.

Cool.

I'll read through it and check details when I get a chance. I'm not really familiar with Debian, but I depend on Amanda all the time. Sometimes, I almost forget it is running until it sends me a reminder that I need to do something. I run a rotation of 30 AIT5 tapes (5 a week), and my tape library only holds 16. So, periodically I have to shuffle a few tapes in and out of the library.
