LXer: Digg, Dug, Buried: How Linux news disappears

Published at LXer:

Ever wonder why bad Microsoft news and good Linux news tend to not get much attention? One reason is because organized groups make sure those stories get as little attention as possible on social networks. But, it's not just technology news. It happens to all news and opinion stories.

Gee, letting readers decide what gets published is a bad idea. Who ever would have thought that would ever happen.

The question is why does this author support Digg at all by displaying their widget on his site? We need fewer people relying on sites like Digg.

Every news site worth its webspace needs *some* kind of editorial control otherwise the morons and spammers will run loose and create havoc. It's also obvious that these social networking sites will never have the same level of quality control as a serious news publication, so why compare the two?

I, for one, never use Digg at all, so I couldn't care less about the issues he talks about. If Digg is taken over fully by the spammers and zombies of Microsoft its credibility will only diminish further, so all the more power to us.
