Canonical seeks profit from free Ubuntu
Hi All, I know just enough about linux (Ubuntu specifically) to be dangerous to myself:eek: Today I saw this article in Zdnet though but it was the same article. I took the title to mean that Ubuntu may possibly be non-free in the future? I did not understand the article at all, but the title worried me. Would anyone know what that means, Canonical seeks profit from free Ubuntu? Where the profit would come from? TIA for any thoughts...... katy

The Canonical team has already said they will NEVER EVER EVER sell the Ubuntu distribution. So if they ever do decide to sell a distro, they will have to label it under another name. Pro-buntu anyone?

Katy98, after reading the story, the Canonical team was just saying the same thing they've always said. (We make the software as good as possible, give away at no charge, and we only charge if you would optionally like to purchase tech support.) And I think the article said you could get support for as low as $200/year, which I imagine is 1000% better than any support MS ever offered.

and i'm having the impression that if we are not having buisnesses comprising of only 1 or 2 men show , we should seriously consider "buying" distro supports office-wide ... probably swifter implementation and much less hectic to do so ...
probably in the long run , what office people and workers use in their workplaces they will use it at home ... //now ... imagine ... . |
