LXer: Can you replace a computer with your mobile

Published at LXer:

Android phones have reached the point where they have similar specifications in terms of CPU and Ram than most budget laptops, but are held back for phone centric tasks. The truth is, your phone is ready to replace your laptop or desktop if you give it a chance.

No.

Small screen (of course mine isn't a smartphone). Even smart phones still have small screens.
Where are the drivers for printing to my older laser printer?
Where is the storage and upgradability?

No different then it has been in computing for sometime. Not everyone has the same needs.

As I always post when something like this comes up: If and when phones are able to do what desktops do then they will, in effect, be desktops -- they'll need keyboards, mouse devices, USB ports for printers and other peripherals, monitors and ethernet ports. Then they'll just be desktops with less computing power nad no ability to upgrade anything.
I do see some merit in being able to carry a computer around and plug it into available screens and input devices but if you're using a desktop machine for a fixed task then you might as well have a huge case with room for expansion.
