More likely, sales of their Linux products have been declining for years.

I try to keep up with virus stuff (used even hang around alt.com.virus when I used Windows a lot) and I never heard of them before.

They have been around for a while. I use Avira via a liveUSB sometimes to repair Windows that wont boot or has been infected by virus'.

I am certain they have been around for a while and they probably have an excellent product, but they are not a big player, at least not in the States.

In Germany they are very common and always get good reviews in tests (average reaction time of under 2 hours to new threats). I use their free product on my Windows installation and have used the Linux version on a USB live version for cleaning up heavily infected systems for a while (nowadays I always reinstall those systems).

I might have to give them a try on my Windows box if they are available here! That's pretty impressive.
