LXer: Ars gear: the old Windows PC resurrected with Ubuntu

Published at LXer:

I love buying gadgets, and I'm not one to deprive myself. My house has just about every piece of equipment I've ever lusted after, from a Mac Mini hooked up to an Apple Cinema Display to a Sony Bravia 3D TV connected to my PS3. I have a MacBook Air, PS Vita, iPad, Nintendo 3DS, Kindle touch—the list goes on.I wouldn't want to do without any of them. But out of all my gadgets and computers, there's one I respect above all others, and it's an old piece of junk.

I really don't understand the article.
How is Ubuntu "lightweight"?
How is Ubuntu not "as fully featured as Windows"?
Why does he expect a laptop which was probably considered moderately quick when he bought it to be slow now? Computers don't age and become slower.
I always thought Ars Technica was supposed to be an IT literate site, but this guy doesn't seem to have a clue.

You are right, this guy really doesn't know what he is talking about. He wants to use Windows programs that are known to not really work with Wine, but instead of installing Windows he tries it with Ubuntu and rather installs Windows in a VM and a on Mac (which is by the way violating the license). He wants to disable the touchpad but seems to be not able to use Google or to ask in a forum.
This article is crap, the author doesn't know anything about Linux, but describes it as inferior to Windows or the Mac.
