OK this is stable door maintenance after the horse has bolted but if it happens again this is what to do WITHOUT RE-INSTALLING EITHER OS.

1) First you have to repair the MBR. Do this by inserting your Windows install CD and use the Recovery Console. It will prompt you for the Windows installation to repair (normally on C:\)

2) At the prompt type FIXMBR.

3) This will fix the MBR of disk so you'll be able to boot Windows -- test that that works. You won't see GRUB at all but don't worry we are going to repair that now.

4) Boot from your 10.1 SUSE install disks.
5) Choose Other at type of install ====>repair existing installation.

6) Choose re-install GRUB loader -- He presto you'l find you can now boot BOTH Windows and LINUX with no re-install of either OS.

I beleive I did that. I did fixmbr and then I did as you have said, SuSE DVD and install and then repair. Yes, I could then boot SuSE but not Wins. I can check from suse and there was nothing in my C:\, it was empty, no OS. Well, I have now a stable system again. I would remove Wins forever, but need them because I have AutoCAD which was expensive and for now I am using it.

You said I can remove this SuSE 10.1 /dev/hda6 from bootloader menu??

Note did you "repartition" your disk or tell SUSE to use the whole disk when you re-installed SUSE. If you did this or changed the Windows partition then you will have deleted your Windows OS.
Normally GRUB will add SUSE to any existing OS'es it finds on the Disk.

(This is also true in a Multiple Disk environment - Linux can be on any Disk in your environment but I think Windows has to be on a primary partition on one of the First 2 disk drives - I'm not a Windows GURU so this might not be true anymore but there certainly used to be restrictions on where you could install Windows on a Multi Disk system).

Normally I live SuSE to do all the work. But when I tried to repair my system , I only did fixmbr and from my DVD install disk I try to repair GRUB bootloader. And as I said, SuSE worked well that time.

I recently installed Suse 10.1 on my computer.

When I start up my machine (with the boot HDD the one Suse is installed on) I get the grub bootloader menu, with options for Suse, Windows and Suse "safe mode".
When I select the windows option , "chainloader (/dev/sda)+1" is displayed on the screen and the computer stays there until I reboot.
I installed Suse on the first partition of my IDE HDD and Windows XP Pro is installed on the first partition of my SATA HDD.
In linux my windows installation is located under media:/sda1.
When I changed my bootloader settings in Suse, so windows should be found under "/dev/sda1" or "media:/sda1" I get an error that ntldr could not be found, although the file displays in Suse, when I open this location in "my computer".

If some1 could please give me advice on how I can get the windows link on my bootloader to work I would appreciate it dearly
