Sticky Request: YaST Update sources - Page 5

I have a question for anyone... I have 9.1 personal and am trying to add as much to it as I can...

Does anyone know where I can find developmental packages that I can add via YAST? (the basic ones and their libraries... make/install... etc)

Look at post #1 for the sources and in post #10 on how to integrate them.

It's any SUSE mirror that offers the devel packages. Just add the 9.1 folder to your installation sources.

Just tried this and get a blank page now. It use to work.

I'm looking for apache for x86_64 machines. It doesn't appear to be listed and it is not on my Suse9.2 dvd, so does it not exist for the amd64 and can I use an alternative 32 bit version?

Have a look either here (original packages):
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.2/suse/x86_64
or here (up-to-date packages):
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/apache

The first source (or better a mirror) can be integrated as YaST installation source, the second not.

The source you cited above does only provide KDE packages.

I get a server for updating to KDE 3.4 but why I cant do that? always got messages that cannot install packages?

it says that the packages was error...I try several times still but it seems still can't do

It works for me on some of those HTTPs and FTPs.
Make sure you can login there first (e.g. check using Firefox or Konqueror), and check if your version is available.
Don't mixed up the HTTP or FTP ones.
No slash / in the beginning (nor end) of the entries.
Make sure you are connected though :-)

Try not to turn on every sources, focus on where and what you are going to install the packages.

x86_64 is for 64 bit processor, i.e. Athlon 64. Sometime if you mixed up with 32 bit e.g. i586 sources it won't work

Most (if not all) of these servers offer the KDE supplementary. Pick one

which file I must update first when upgrading KDE 3.3 to 3.4? one by one or just seleck all?

I usually select all, but I've heard that you may update arts, kdebase3, kdelibs3 and kde3-i18n first. The following depedencies should be solved automatically.
You could also run 'System Update' instead of selecting all packages manually in 'Install and Remove Software'

Okay, someebody set me straight.

All this documentation for "change source installation, and then accessing it your YAST" is for retrieveing the latest versions of your favorite software, right?

i mean, i just read all Five pages of this thread... and thats what im aconcluding.

So my Question:

Is this for Security Updates as well?
You know, patches, etc?

im guessing No.
But what is the "Online Update" for in YAST?
of how about the "System Update" in YAST?

i would like to update my system "security-wise", but i dont know which one to use,
nor do i know the "Server Name" or "Directory on Server" to enter in.

i have suse9.1 by the way. (but would my system blowup with i used 9.2 update files?)
