The latest version of Skype is not working on 64 system. I am using 1.3.0.53 and it works OK.

I can intall skype-1.4.0.99-suse.i586.rpm on suse 10.2 64-bit - I have added the suse 10.3 factory mirror ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distr...y/inst-source/ to the YaST installation source list to be able to resolve the qt4 dependencies. If you then choose the action 'install with YaST' on the RPM the dependencies are resolved automatically. Skype then works correctly.

According to this post on skype forum, the native 64 bit version will not come at the nearest time.

Regarding the suggestion to install i586 rpm with yast - yast did try to resolve dependencies, but it suggested to install 32 bit version of qt instead of 64 bit version which I already have installed, which is not acceptable.

The best way I have found to run skype on 64bit without rubbishing my system with 32 bit packages, was the following:
1. Download static skype version from skype.com site.
2. Unpack it - if now to run it, it will still complain that it misses libsigc-2.0.so.0 - though this lib is installed on my system, it wants 32 bit version of it. Qt is fine with static skype.
3. Download binary 32 bit libsigc++20 library - I have taken it from here ftp://fr.rpmfind.net/linux/fedora/ex....17-1.i386.rpm .
4. Do not install libsigc...rpm - open it in some packager and extract libsigc-2.0.so.0.0.0 file from it.
5. Put it to the unpacked skype directory (skype_static-1.4.0.99) and rename to libsigc-2.0.so.0
6. Run skype.

Thanks a lot for that :-)
The only I had to change was to copy libsigc to /lib .
Skype works fine now :-)

Cheers
