10.0 beta2 to beta3 to beta4 etc....?

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
i currently run 10.0 beta2..
just noticed that there is now a beta3 available..
also noticed that it's only a week between beta2 and beta3..

i see that you can 'upgrade' your i386 beta2 to beta3 via smaller delta iso's..
how do i do if i want to 'upgrade' my 64bit beta2 to beta3 and etc..?
do i really need to download, burn and re-install from 5 new iso's every time (week..?) the next beta is out..?

NO just add the beta3 sources. You can change the beta1 sources to beta3 but keep the beta2 sources. Then run System Update.

craigevil,
hhmmm..hm..ok - i tried that - but it seems to me that it did not work really....??
when i made the sys update i selected all packages to be forced update..
then i was asked to insert the the 5 installation cd's (beta2) one by one.. at no point could i see any updating linked to the online /inst-source dir
so is that a sys update to the beta3 from the beta2..? and is it possible to check which beta i have installed..?

I just clicked System Update. Not the software update in YOU zzzall.

Going from beta2 to beta3 didn't seem to download as many files as going from beta1 to beta 2 did.

The beta1 to beta2 update downloaded 1.8GB of files. Had to also switch disks a few times.
The beta2 to beta3 update only downloaded around 10MB.

next question

i just saw in the repositories that there is now delta iso's available also for x86_64..
i tried downloading these (beta3_beta4)
put the 5 of them into the same dir as the 5 beta2 iso's
made the:
Code:
 $ applydeltaiso SUSE-10.0-CD-OSS-x86_64-Beta2-CD1.iso \SUSE-10.0-CD-OSS-x86_64-Beta2_Beta3_beta4-CD1.delta.iso
\SUSE-10.0-CD-OSS-x86_64-Beta4-CD1.iso
within the dir..one command for each 5 cd's..
ended up in 'success'..
but i expected to see 5 new iso's named SUSE-10.0-CD-OSS-x86_64-Beta4-CD1.iso etc.. for me to burn on 5 blank cd's in order to make a new install - or can you update your sys with the new iso's (if you have those - that is)..?
none of those - just the same 10 files within the dir..

what could i be doing wrong - or is this the way to do a delta update with the old iso's..?

alright - i seem to have finally grapped the deal..
i just did another system update - and again it asked for 2 of the cd's..and updated the kernel - which btw is 2.6.13-rc6-git7-3-smp..
so i assume that this is all there is to it..?
but still: is it possible to check anywhere which beta ver (2, 3 or 4) is in your box..?

thx for your patience..

More. It is an all-in-one hardware/general system configuration tool. It's kinda like the control panel on a windows box. Almost any configuration that requires root access can be done from YaST.

One of the YaST modules is an rpm frontend. It is where you go on a SuSE box install any package that came with the distro.

YAST is like the Mandrake Control Center (MCC or Drakconf). What confuses some people is that the word YAST is also used to refer to the modules that make up the YAST program e.g. the package manager.

Repositories contain packages for a distro.

I'm wondering if those sources by "craigevil" on the first page here for Yast are still valid, I have tried clicking on the links & they lead to nothing.
If that is the case then what sources do we have for SuSE 10.
The other reason I ask is I am also having trouble adding them to my Sources in Yast but might be doing it wrong as I am not quite sure which part goes in the "add to Directory part" & which part of Repo goes to "Server Name" & when I try to add them through Terminal as described I get "no such file or directory" so I think I ain't doing it right?

Repos from ftp.gwdg.de are not working.... The link seems to be broken or something like this....

But repos from Packman and Schiele are ok.... but doesn't work !!!!

I add these repos to YaST (and YaST added both ok) but when I go to Software Manager (in YaST) I receive the message "Looking For Avaliable Packages" but, when it ends, I can't find any packages from Packman or Schiele.... Only packages from CDs !!

I've been using this process on many installs for SuSE 9.3, and all works great ! Why not works on SuSE 10 ???

Oh, yes... I'm using SuSE 10.0 GM, in 5 CDs, downloaded from one SuSE mirror.... And I make all upgrades (with YOU) in install process...

Any help ?
