OpenSuse 10.3 Installation Help

Ok I have downloaded the kde one. I went to install it and it kept saying it can't find the cd. I used this site to fix that. http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:CD_not_found_problem now after the boot during the install it keeps saying:
trying manual resume from /dev/hda1
resume device /dev/hda1 not foudn (ignoring)
waiting for device /dev/disk/by-id/ata-Hitachi_HTS541680J9AT00_SB0244SGKJE75E-part2 to apear
.could not find /dev/disk/by-id/ata-Hitachi_HTS541680J9AT00_SB0244SGKJE75E-part2
want me to fall back to /dev/disk/by-id/ata-Hitachi_HTS541680J9AT00_SB0244SGKJE75E-part2 (y/n)

both yes and no do not work.. i have tried booting wiht the boot options insmod=ide-generic

please help me!
thanks

Well....I had similar problems with the kde cd. I messed around with it most of the night and couldn't make it work. And... from what I've herd, a lot of other people haven't been able to make it work either. I've got the dvd downloading now.

Maybe using the boot kernel flags noapic nolapic will work

Hello, I have exactly the same problem with my new installation of Opensuse 10.3.
I had to add "insmod=ide_generic" to install and now, my computer can't boot without the DVD.
=> Could not find /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST340810A_5FB3Q681-part6.

I tried to add "noapic nolapic" in GRUB, but that doesn't work.
Screenshot

I posted a thread in a french forum : http://www.alionet.org/index.php?showtopic=17711

Has anybody an idea?
Thanks

Strange... could you post your /boot/grub/menu.lst after booting from the CD/DVD?

Also, in the fist post, the resume device is listed as /dev/hda1, but from my experience resume should point to the swap space.In this regard I think posting both /boot/grub/menu.lst and /etc/fstab might be in order to spot any inconsistencies.

In my menu.lst, my resume device si good (hda5 is swap and hd6 is /).

I'll check during the next reboot without the DVD to see if I have the same error.

This is what I get during a normal boot :

Try in your menu.lst to change root=/dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST340810A_5FB3Q681-part6 to root=/dev/hda6. This should work.

Edit: in menu.lst, insmod=ide_generic should read insmod=ide-generic, no?

nope same thing except it reads waiting for /dev/hda2 instead of /dev/disk/by-id/ata-Hitachi_HTS541680J9AT00_SB0244SGKJE75E-part2

Installation problem openSuSE 10.3

Hi steve_ervin21

openSuSE 10.3 now uses libata also for IDE-harddisks which treats all drives like SCSI devices. Therefore libata can't handle harddrives with more than 15 partitions. For some reason some PCs with IDE drives and only a few partitions fail to boot with libata.

Use this boot parameter when you install openSuSE 10.3 to disable libata:
hwprobe=-modules.pata

This parameter lets openSuSE treat your HDD the old way.
I experienced the same problem like you. After using the said parameter the installation worked fine.
