Opens Suse 10.3 can't see GE A950 digital camera

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Hello everybody. I got this camera today. My PC can't see it.

Using USB cable

Camera is setup in PC (PTP) mode.
Has PC and printer USB modes. I have tried all modes

Digikam has generic USB camera profile.

Linux dose not see camera even as external device.

When I plug camera into PC watching the camera the connection
times out.

My PC can't see the camera at all.

Thanks in advance.

Sam

Thank You. In that thread they use a command in terminal "dmesg"

I entered that when in terminal this is what I found

usb 2-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 13
usb 2-2: new device found, idVendor=1b1e, idProduct=9300
usb 2-2: new device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
usb 2-2: Product: A950
usb 2-2: Manufacturer: GE
usb 2-2: SerialNumber: 25C0GBZ045
usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

I am using KDE desktop still dose not see the camera. I looked in Konqueror
it dosen't see it as a storeage device.

Just for giggles I plugged my old camera typed dmesg:

usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2
usb 1-1: new device found, idVendor=040a, idProduct=057a
usb 1-1: new device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
usb 1-1: Product: KODAK EasyShare CX7330 Zoom Digital Camera
usb 1-1: Manufacturer: Eastman Kodak Company
usb 1-1: SerialNumber: KCFDH52028133
usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

I am using the same SD card in both cameras. I been having problems connecting with the old camera this month.

Funny thing is with old camera plugged in without the SD card
computer dose not see it.

I put the SD card in old camera. dmesg:

usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 2
usb 2-2: USB disconnect, address 15
usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 3
usb 1-1: new device found, idVendor=040a, idProduct=057a
usb 1-1: new device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
usb 1-1: Product: KODAK EasyShare CX7330 Zoom Digital Camera
usb 1-1: Manufacturer: Eastman Kodak Company
usb 1-1: SerialNumber: KCFDH52028133
usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

PC still dose not see the camera.

So I am guessing that the SD card is bad. PC's see the SD card
as a storeage device?

Thank You

Sam

Don't know anything much about this...

Did your older camera work with 10.3 before?

In reading dmesg, I do not see that the kernel is loading a module for the camera. Shouldn't the kernel treat your camera the same as any other device and have a driver module for it other than as a USB device?

If I use the command "lshw" and "lsmod" I can see what the kernel finds for hardware and then loads to make the hardware devices in my system function. Should not the 10.3 kernel, if it is not too old to support these cameras, do the same?
