ntl: hell more like

ok i'l try and make it simple
i have a ntl 1 mb conection and a 3com office conect hub 8/tcp and it works fine on my windows boxes but on suse 10.1 it said im conected to the wired network BUT i cannot conect 2 the internet ............. im not useing a proxy and i have checked my tcp/ip settings
my network layout is :

conected to the router is ntl: and 2 windows boxes plus the afected linux box

you understanding of a twelve year old boy wil be much aprecaeted
COME ON IM TWELVE AND IM LEARNIG C# and writeng my own distro

HELP!

can you ping other hosts on your lan?
can you dig an internet address?
show us your ifconfig here.
whats the ip of the gateway?

I cant ping another host on my lan and i cant get an ifconfig
when i rerun YaST it tells me that the conection is fine

can you ping the same computer
ping 127.0.0.1
I dont think you will be able to. not sure, but I think your nic isnt detected here.

yes i can ping it but i just get 64 byets of data sent 64 receved over and over
of corse ive shortend that lots and lots its something like 64=sent&() 127.0.0.1 () 64 receved

you need to run the
ifconfig
command.
it should give you output.
try
/sbin/ifconfig

humph!...and I thought ifconfig wasnt working...
true you know that, but I need to know how you have setup your network inorder to help you. so if you had pasted it here, it would have been alot easier
anyway,
open your Yast control center
click on network devices, and set your ip, dns server and gateway there.
restart your network services
/etc/init.d/network restart

ok i'm gonna make it simple i have a linux box runing suse 10.1

my sister has a windoz box and that works fine no need to talk about that!

my mum has a windoz box too its the same as my sisters

problem

<problem>
i can conecced to my ntl internet conection trough a router useing windows (the worst OS in the world bie the way) but not in suse 10.1
which realy pisses me off plus there is the fact that when i log on i can acsess my windows network trough SAMBA but not the internet
can someone tell me in a simple esay to do fashon the way to get the internet back!

i have done that boreing thing turn off modem turn off box turn on modem wait.... turn on box to no avail
oh and mmy mum and sis are fine too they are on the net

I love linux and realy want to use the net

Can you ping google.com?
If not go to one of the windows boxes and ping google.com
Go back to *nix box and ping the IP that you resolved on the windows box..
Does it resolve?

on windows box fine but cant pin using *nix "network is unreachable"

Even using the IP address? Or did you still just try the host name?

And how do you lock down your router? Are you sure you don't lock down via MAC address, and you forgot to allow your NIC to get through?
