Are you quite sure, you don't have the files installed ?
Please do this command :
find /lib/modules/`uname -r` -name *e1000*
( e1000.ko , e1000e.ko )
... They are included in Suse 10.3 .
If both are loaded, the e1000e may not work.
lsmod : to see what is loaded. ( or : su , lsmod )
