Wink Compositing desktop effects and login errors in SuSE 11.1.

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Saying hi!

I'm new with my SuSE 11.1. and:
  1. I tried to set up the Composite desktop effects (the box switch and others) but it tells me that my system does not support them because I don't have XComposite nand XDamage but these are not available on the default repositories,so where can I find them?

Regardless the graphic hardware, I guess that it shouldn't be a problem because the OS actually recognized the graphic card according to YaST... actually there's a check box marked to enable 3d acceleration.

    What's wrong then?

  2. I used to have an user called "bassy" besides "root" but I decided that I was going to be "root" all the time so I deleted "bassy" but now, after the OS boots it tells me that there's no user named "bassy".

How can I do to tell the system that it should go straight to the name and password selection?

Thanks!

I did everything on that site... but when I run

Quote:
simple-ccsm
It windows appears but when I hit enable I get

Quote:
Checking for Xdmx: not present.
Checking for Xgl: not present.
No whitelisted driver found
Dry run failed: Problems detected with 3D support.'n
Now as I mentioned before, it does knows my graphic card but it shouldn't be asking for Xdmx because it is already installed plus I can't find Xgl.

What's your graphics card and what driver is installed for it?

If you have an NVIDIA card with the NVIDIA driver then you also need to run as root

Code:
nvidia-xconfig --composite --allow-glx-with-composite --add-argb-glx-visuals

According to the SaX2: X11 Configuration, I have an

NVidia GeForce4 MX 4000

with the "Activate 3D Acceleration" check box enabled.

I tried to run this but bash complained of not command found:

Quote:
-bash: nvidia-xconfig: command not found
Does this mean that I have to download the specifics driver for my card from NVidia?

I took a quick look on the www before having to go to classes today and I found myself here:

http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/nvidia-...r-HOWTO.html#1

Is this a good place place to start?
