Yast wants to install ppc package on X86_64
 

I want to update my system. It's Suse 10.2 x86_64. Using Yast I get a list of packages, ppc packages with missing dependencies. Why is it trying to use ppc packages on my x68_64 machine?

Wrong Installation Disk?
 

I don't see anyone else stepping in to provide any help. I have never seen this problem, but I would wonder what would happen if you downloaded the PPC install disk and tried to install it on the wrong type of system? It is for sure in my mind I would re-download the correct installation disk and start over again and see what happens.

Is this a new installation that you are trying to update or have you been using this system for some time and this problem has suddenly popped up? In a terminal, what is the output of "uname -a"?

What sort of hardware are you using (cpu, motherboard, memory, HDD, etc.)?

In YaST, what software catalogs or repos are you using? Try enabling the repos one at a time to determine which one is offering the PPC packages. What PPC packages are installed on your computer that require an update?

jdmcdaniel3 suggested the installation disk may be wrong but it is x86_64.

It is not a new installation. It has been running happily for months. The hardware is Intel Core 2 Duo, MSI P965 Platinum mobo.

The error is missing dependencies for kde3base-xxxxx.ppc.rpm. I get several of them. If I check do not install it just gets grumpy about other things. The KDE that is installed and running is x86_64.

On the bright side. I installed and did the update with smart and it had no problem.

So on one hand the problem is solved but on the other I would like to understand what was happening.

I am glad that you were able to accomplish your update using Smart. Were your repo sources in YaST set correctly? If they are, I don't have a clue as to the cause of the confusion in YaST. I myself have been using Smart almost exclusively since 10.1. I would be curious to see what happens the next time you try to update KDE vis YaST...

The funny thing is I used the same repos with smart as with yast. I am sorry I don't have them in front of me now. But I got all of them from SUSEs web page.
