YAST software update configuration

I am running our new school web server on Suse 9.3 with two network cards. One card connects to our local LAN and is behind a hardware firewall. The other is connected directly to the net to serve our web site and a Moodle courseware system.

My problem is that I cannot connect to the update servers to download updated software. My guess is that YAST is trying to connect through the local ethernet port and is hitting the school's hardware firewall, preventing it from connecting to the update server. I can get around on the Internet using a Firefox, but I have to have that browser set to the school's proxy server in order to get through.

Is there a way to make YAST either:

A) use the school proxy server for its connections by going through 10.30.1.5:8080

or

B) make YAST connect through the unfirewalled NIC card.

My sincere thanks for any advice!

I guess I need to reopen this question. I got the software update to work properly using the school's proxy server, but I can't FTP properly. Our district firewall is very picky about ftp transfers through any means other than a web browser, and this simply will not work for me on a regular basis.

So my first question stands, how do I force the computer to use the non-firewalled NIC card as the default card for all outgoing connections?
