Yast dependency conflict when installing drivers.
 

Fresh build of Suse 10.2 . Trying to install nvidia drivers using Yast but when I select the drivers x11-video-nvidia or nvidia-gfx-kmp-default from the list, it immediately comes back with a 'dependency conflict' error and says it has missing dependencies. My question is - am I doing anything wrong? The couple of sites I went to, including nvidia, showed a 3-5 step procedure and nvidia recommends using Yast so the nvidia kernel will not have to be re-complied. Resolving dependencies is not a problem - I love doing things at the command line, its finding the right ones is my issue. If someone knows of a good link or some words of wisdom it would sure help my level of sanity. Thnx in advance.

I'm not sure if I can help, but I remember reading somewhere about dependency problems and nvidia drivers. You might try the "Search" at the top of this page and enter into the forums slot with a couple of different words.

I remember installing my Nvidia drivers from source. Just download your Linux-source, grab the nvidia source binary, install the linux-source, run the nvidia binary, verify your xorg settings with the new nvidia module, and that should be it.

I downloaded NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1.run as at the prompt I entered 'sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1.run -q'. It asks me to accept - I accept then it tells me I am missing /bin/sh. I checked and /bin/sh is there. I went back to the Yast approached and got a list of dependencies - I resolved about 30 (some from DVD), at this point it is starting to look rediculous - looking like the donky and the carrot analogy.

Call off the hounds!. Here's what I figured out-
Yast must be incorrect (to a point). Since all those dependencies had to have a common root (no pun intended), I went back to try to find a way to do a dev library install\upgrade of some sort. Well never made it that far, when I went to Applications-> System->Configuration->Install Software and it popped up a window asking to install my already check boxed software, I hit install - what could I lose at this point! We'll low an behold - it installed it........with no dependency issues! And it works perfect! I'm just going to push the 'I believe button' at this point and quote something from Meatwad.........'Do what now?'............Thanks a whole bunch for the help and ya'll are some really good people. I wish I could help more with other peoples Linux problems, but I only know what I have incountered - which ain't much. Thank you again.
