Xorg 6.9 available SuSE 10.0 in supplementary branch

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/sup.../i386/suse100/

Has anyone tried the upgrade yet? If so, how did it work for you?

I am going to do the upgrade in just a few moments.

I am also going to try to change my xorg.conf file back to the default setting (had to change to get the video working).

I'll report in a while.

Fiancee came home early, and I had "other things" to take care of.

Downloading the packages as we speak, since I am stuck at work.

Note the line at the top of the read me

Use at your own risk

I just tried the update and it broke x. The only way I could get any display at all was to use fbdev.

I reverted back to 6.8 and all is working fine again.

I installed the rpms on my Acer laptop and they work fine. I dropped to runlevel 3, uninstalled the old xorg packages and then installed the new ones.

First I added all the new files as a Yast source, then upgraded everything. Oncee it didn't work out for me, I simply removed the source and clicked upgrade on the files I had installed, it automatically removes the new ones and reinstalls the old ones.

Well, tomorrow is the day I attempt an upgrade. Pray, think happy thoughts, etc.

Question though: When the heck is Novell going to update their SaX2 repository? Their FTP site has just a readme which refers to a nonexistent site.

Oops, the site IS there now (I double-checked before submitting just to see if it was FINALLY available). Has anyone on SuSE 10 tried updating SaX2 from ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/sax/supplementary ?

How can you update sax2 for suse 10.0 ?? There is only rpm for SUSE 9.1

It's an RPM - I am going to force the install. The absolute worst that will happen is that I will have to downgrade back to SuSE 10's broken SaX, or I will have to do what I've been doing; building xorg.conf by hand.

Well the SaX2 upgrade went smoothly - there is actually a SuSE 10 repository on that ftp site at ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/sax/head-build/suse-10.0

However the upgrade to Xorg 6.9 was a miserable failure.

It wasn't that it didn't work; it did work, and SaX2 was able to configure it properly. However performance STINKS - I was only getting about 25% of the framerate I was getting in Xorg 6.8.2. Reading up on it I learned that 3D acceleration for the ATI Radeon 8500 has not been implemented. Also, I tried AVView in the hopes that I could get the tuner in my AiW8500DV card running under Linux without having to downgrade to XFree86 -- no dice.
