Red face X Won't Start, After Synaptic Upgrade

After installing APT as per this wiki:

http://susewiki.org/index.php?title=Install-apt4suse

I then installed Synaptic and did an upgrade. It upgraded 164 packages and removed 3. Now when I try to run Suse X won't start. It goes to command line [run level 3?]. I can log in as user or root but when I try to run 'startx' I get this error list:

[EE] Failed to load module "i845" [module does not exist, 0]
no devices detected

Fatal server error:
no screens found

XIO: fatal IO error 104 [connection reset by peer] on X server ":0.0"
after 0 requests [0 known processed]
with 0 events remaining

Can anyone help me solve this???

Editing the xorg.conf file should fix the "no screens found" issue. But why use apt when YAST2 works?

First I looked in Suse and my xorg.conf file appears to be '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' but I couldn't figure out what to change to get X to work in Suse.

The fix was to run as root "X -configure".

The reason I was using APT/Synaptic is that according to someone on another thread said APT and SMART do a better job of conflict resolution. Needless to say not my experience. I would like to know more about this. I looked for the link that led me in that direction but haven't found it yet. When I do I will discuss this issue with the protagonist.

Use sax2.

You must have omitted the installation of the drivers for the new X.Org - they are not a dependency for thebase package to install.
