Wired vs. Wireless on thinkpad
I've searched for a couple days on this, but haven't been able to find an answer that directly addresses my problem.
I have an IBM Thinkpad t41, and I've installed SUSE 10.0. I'm a linux newbie, but have a bit of unix experience. Idiot directions are appreciated!
I installed the latest madwifi drivers in order to get the wireless to work. Took some tinkering, but it does.
Now, I can't get either wireless or ethernet connections to come up at startup. Ifconfig shows both interfaces, but neither connects. I have to take both down with ifdown, and then bring up (ifup) whichever interface I'm currently using.
How can I get my system to automatically detect and start up the connection that is available at startup? I'd like to see it check for a cable first, and then try to use wireless if one isn't available.
As a side note - dhcp also reconfigures my /etc/resolv.conf with an invalid DNS server as the first option. This makes my net connection go too slow until I comment it out. Is there a fix for this as well?
