Hey all,

I have recently installed the suse personal CD 9.1 on VMware (v4.5.2), and realised that it doesnt have GCC installed properly to compile code. Reading this thread, I have added an FTP directory to install to and that seems to have worked (no error at least). Now can anyone tell me how to get GCC and the required dependancies? Sorry I am a complete n00b to linux, knowing only very small amounts about it, and I have never used suse or yast before.

When I try to go into Add/Remove software, gcc is already in there and installed, so how come I cant compile stuff? Please help!

TIA

If you have a dsl connection, you can install suse 9.1 professional directly from the internet.
Just download and burn the boot.iso (nearly 26 mb), and then install the system from the internet. (see documentation, in some websites).
Anyway, for a minimal system (kernel + kde, with no office), it should take nearly 1,350 mb or so....
It may take a long time!

You can FTP both 9.1 Personal and 9.1 Pro, from different trees.

You can also find 9.2 Pro via Bittorrent.
