What has just happened!!!!!!!!!!! SUSE 9.3 PRO unfriendly!!!!!

Ok i installed SuSE. It seems that I initially had LILO put the MBR on /dev/hda3

Given that the sole XP was booting on what is now /dev/hda1 this is part of the problem.

This manifest itself in the way that I had to boot from install disc 1 and choose [b]Boot Installed System[.b] to complete the SUSE install. After that everything went well and I entered SUSE.

I then ran YOU. With Kernel update and all. Now I cannot booot in the x-server. What the f*ck is going on? There are numerous iptable eerors before I get to logo on.

I tried init 5 but that did not help either.

I've just installed Mandriva Le2005 and everything including the bootloader is perfect. My interaction with ehe installer was choosing the packages I wanted and changing the discs.

This MD5 worked for this SuSE I have

The install process of most Linux distros has involved no more than an hour. SUSE 9.3 has needed more than a week from me

And 9.2 installed without hassle if I might added. In fact the following installed without problem

Mandrake 10.0
UBuntu
Mandrake 10.1
SuSE v9.2
Mandriva LE2005

But it was SUSE v9.2 that stole my heart. So I thought that 9.3 would do the same. F@ck that!!!

Also I get many iptable errors. Is there a way to get a log of the errors so I can place them here?

Why not just edit you initial post and add extra detail instead of starting new posts. This makes it seem as if you have had some responses to your question and some people will just skip you thread. You need to post exactly whats going wrong when X does not start and maybe what graphics card you are using.

Wasn't aware of the edit function. Or rather didn't think that it worked. Most other forums I go to have the edit function but it doesn't work.

The thing is, it worked until I did YOU

Dude....wtf..if you don't like suse or not willing to play with it.... leave it.

As for you dissing it the whole time... Suse 9.3 is mega cool. I've used a couple of distros before...and I'm a linux n00b, but suse is definately the most user firendly distro that i've seen.

I beats the sht out of mandrake, redhat, ubuntu and previous suse distros.

My install went just fine and everything worked the first time.....

One thing I found odd was installing the MBR on /dev/hda3. I normally put the MBR on the first partition of the drive of /dev/hda1 .

Other than that, if Mandrake/Mandriva works for you, then you should use that. I think Mandriva is also another good distro, in my opinion. You can't go wrong with that one either.

Good luck!

Install GRUB,

FORGET LILO.

LILO is that Stable Loader.

Always remember , Install GRUB and Instal it on /dev/hda1
