Unhappy Weird problem with sounds (suse 9.2)

I'm quite a newbie with suse. I just installed 9.2 but I have serious problems with sounds. I have configureted my sound card in yast (VIA AC97) but if i press the Test button in in Yast's sound configurations volume option, sounds bug big time. The test sound just keep playing again and again, until I delete the sound card and install it again.

Well... if this was the only part of the problem, it would be too easy.

CDs play well and the sound is ok, but MP3s and OGG make no sound at all. Music player either plays the song without making a noise, or the player crashes. Anyhow, listening any non-CD music is impossible.

I checked things in KMix, but that didn't help.

The weirdest thing is, that Audacity does make sound. I can listen songs with Audacity, but that is quite a hard way of doing it...

The soundcard is not damaged, as sounds work fine with Windows and Mandrake.

Please help me with this.

hmmm, VIA sound problems now there's a first...

Hi,

You should probably try disabling ACPI. add pci=noacpi to the linux boot command, see below:

rcol:/boot/grub # more menu.lst
# Modified by YaST2. Last modification on Sat Jan 15 10:03:43 2005

color white/blue black/light-gray
default 0
timeout 20
gfxmenu (hd0,2)/message

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Jon.
