vlc player not installing completely

Hi

I wanted to install a video player so that I can watch movies with extension .avi, .wmv, .mpeg, .flv, etc.

VLC player is the one i liked which can run everything and if there is a software movie-reading issue, it is able to repair the video and show me clearly. This is my experience on windows-xp.

Can someone help me with a way to install vlc player?

I gave the following command and it did something and said lot of the rpm are not installed. I gave ignore and continue installation. At the end, vlc is not working now :(

please help me.

The message i got from the linux shell is given below

Install using command line
sudo zypper ar http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/SuSE/11.1 VLC
>>>>>> Adding repository VLC done

sudo zypper mr -r VLC
>>>>> Nothing to change for repository VLC

sudo zypper in vlc

for starters that link and repo file you are trying to install is for the dead and unsupported 11.1
OpenSUSE 11.4 is the current

and you can not use files( rpm's) for 11.1 in 11.4 - a few might work but not many.

so first off
What version of opensuse are you running ?
11.2 11.3 and 11.4 and the current supported versions
then read the wiki
http://en.opensuse.org/Category:Applications:Multimedia

http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_pa...ideoLan_client
and this IS A MUST READ!!!
http://en.opensuse.org/Restricted_formats
but i would recommend using the qt4 based SMPlayer front end to mplayer for most videos and vlc for dvd's
