Using network printer

I am using a wireless laptop with SLED 10 and have a tower computer that is dual boot either XP or Ubuntu Linux that is on Ethernet card, which is connected to my wireless router and DSL modem. Laptop has ip add: 192.168.0.100 and the Tower is IP add: 192.168.0.101, both us same name server of 192.168.0.1, and both machines are set up on DCHP. I am trying to be able to use the printer that is on the Tower computer while using Linux on my laptop. Do they both have to be running Linux or can the laptop use Linux and the tower use windows?

You have to share the printer from the tower, no matter what you're running. If you're booted under Windows, you'll have to share it from there...not sure how to do it, since it's been 8 years since I've touched that. I think you could then use Samba to print to it, but really not sure how.

Under Linux it's much easier. If you've already got the printer set up, CUPS will advertise it. On the laptop, set up a new printer, and there will be an option somewhere to use a different CUPS server. It'll magically pop up with the printer from your other computer. Select it, and enjoy.

I have installed Samba and am still trying to learn how to use it and set it it to let me print and see the Win computer. The win computer is dual but with "ubuntu" on it and when I was using "Ubuntu" on both the tower and the laptop I was able to see the printer from Linux and use it, but now that I am running SLED 10 SP1 on this laptop and still using "Ubuntu" on the tower I can no longer see the printer? Not sure what I have to do to be able to see and use it from Linux?
