USB thumb stick = slow

I put files on Thumb Stick to transfer to other computers

When i put large file sizes(30MB-100MB) in thumb stick it transfers very slow (10KB-20KB/sec)

can I make the transfer speed faster?

Details...Details....

Is this happening on every computer you plug it into?
Are these computers old spec with slow bus speeds or slow hard drives?
Is the thumb drive a usb2 device and your plugging it into a usb1 socket?
What OSs are you running on these other machines (are they all Suse 10.0 as in your profile)?
What command did you use to mount the device?

If you mean here within SuSE, your USB2 speeds are not working right at all, this is a VERY common issue. There are dozens of threads here in this very forum with answers like these:

unmount ... in options set to mount without sync. Then mount. It should work. Be aware you then have to unmount manually before removing thumb drive.

also...https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=105871 known issue.

I have a dual boot on 1 computer (SuSe 10.0 & Windows XP)

on SuSe speed is 10KB-20KB/sec

on XP speed is 150KB-160KB/sec

The other computers are XP and speed is also 150KB-160KB/sec

so I'm guessing its SuSE and I don't use command line (just copy/cut file and paste on thumb stick)

except known bug in SuSE, this might be caused by your kernel. Try to upgrade, or even get SuSE HEAD 2.6.16.x
Currently I am using 2.6.15 and on average speed is around 280KB/s (Imation ThumbDrive USB2) when transferring ~22MB file. Unless, there is some sort of limit size after which transfer degrades fast, I don't think that I will have your problem
Finally, it might be your hardware
