Upgraded to KDE 3.5 and lost my chameleon

I upgraded from KDE 3.4.X to 3.5 using YaST. It worked fine, but now I have a K icon for my start button, my green Chameleon face (SUSE icon) is gone. Is there a way to get this back on the kicker?

Thanks,

You can set kicker button manually, or use KBFX to replace it if you can't find which icon to replace in your kde/icons folder.

Sorry my ignorance, but how do you manually set the button or even use KBFX. I am new to linux, but can follow instructions very well.

Thanks for the reply,
SL

Okay, as I said before to change icons, you can do a few things, apply an icon theme, overwrite the files in the kde/icons folder, or use KBFX.

To apply an icon theme, you merely download it, leave it as an archive(like .tar.gz), and then using the kmenu > kcontrol > appearance(or look and feel, or themes depending on distro and version) then icons. Once there, just add new theme, and browse to the archive.

To manually overwrite icons: http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/11862.html and check out the "system icons section" it will show you where to put them, what they are, etc. There is a preexisting folder as well, though I cannot recall for certain, so I don't want to tell you a wrong location. go into your base directory(/) and do a
Code:
find */kde
and you should be able to find them. If you have to go deeper, do a
Code:
find */*/kde
etc, and eventually you will find it.

Finally, KBFX is a kicker applet that allows you to choose whatever icon you want as a kmenu icon. You can drag and drop any .png to the kicker to make it a button with it installed. I recommend sticking with .47, as .48 made some... less than optimal changes. For deatils: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=30218 which is also the place to get a nice rpm so you don't have to compile kbfx yourself. Then once installed, right click on the kicker, add applet, add kbfx, and you are done. Move it to your liking, then remove the kmenu button, put whatever icon you want as the icon, and then restart x(or reboot).

See my sig, that is what KBFX would look like on a SuSE Desktop, very easy, it is just an applet.

Oh, I did that; but soon I realised that in appearances & themes>icons> Crystal SUSE did the trick as well. I have my chameleon back!

What repository did you use to update KDE?

Jongi (I see you are from my home country!)

I followed instructions http://spinink.net/category/open-source/suse-linux/
to upgradey to KDE3.5.

I must say that tinkling with the setting to get the desktop to look like I want to, especially, GNOME, has many problems. The system either does not like my choices or I am doing something wrong. I had about 5 crashes in GNOME2 when I was getting the themes settings soreted out. I have decided to live with the default for now. Found out how to get the fonts a little better with gtk2 Preferences so that was good.,
SL

Take care
