try going to multimedia , volume control and make sure everything is turned on.....think it's an analog switch of some sort depending on what you have installed mixer wise.....start turning things on or unmuting etc until you get sound... I usually have to do this on my 9.2 install as well.
cheers

I did't solve this problem. In suse 9.1 everything worked but when I upgrade to 9.2 I can't hear any music and system beep but the xmms works fine (without voice).
Help

This fix was posted to me (if you are using KDE):

for sounds, as root:
/opt/kde3/bin/startkde

edit it, search for the first line in the following (the test line):

test -n "$KDEWM"&&KDEWM="--windowmanager $KDEWM"
kdeinit +knotify
kwrapper ksmserver $KDEWM

add the kdeinit line, it's probably missing

When you say you updated from 9.1 to 9.2, does that mean that you got the 9.2 cd/dvd's and chose the upgrade option when you installed? If you did, I recommend that you back up your data and do a fresh install of 9.2. Then, if you're still having sound problems, run alsaconf.
