Updating cdparanoia

I am trying to install DJPlay but it gives me an error stating DJPlay requires cdparanoia-alpha9.8-25 or a higher version. The version I have is 9.8.

How do you update it to an alpha version? The latest stable version for cdparanoia, as far as I know is 9.8.

When I update using YaST I see a message that it is updating to an alphaversion yet when I execute "cdparanoia --version" I keep getting 9.8. Is it possible to update cdparanoia to an alpha version using YaST?? Or will I have to build from source?? I don't believe there are RPM's for alpha versions.

I heard about DJPlay from another user that used apt-get to install DJPlay and he had no problems installing, there must be a way of doing it on SuSE.

Maybe if I uninstall cdparanoia and then build from source will that do it without breaking any dependencies, like software that uses cdparanoia breaking down? What about if I just build from source even if cdparanoia is still installed, will that cause any problems??? Or is there a way to use YaST, maybe there's an installation source that is out there and I don't know about?

If anyone can help I'll greatly appreciate it.

The latest stable version of cdparanoia-III is 9.8. The actual name of the package given by the developers is cdparanoia-III-alpha9.8. The current testing release is called cdparanoia-III-10pre0. I don't know the significance of the 'alpha' in the name, but it's not because it is an alpha release.

YAST is probably going to give you the latest stable release which would be 9.8. The maintainers of cdparanoia don't have 9.8-25 release, it's just 9.8 with no qualifiers.

This is the exact error I'm getting from YaST when I try to install DJ Play:

"djplay-05.0-1.i386[_krpview_temporary] cannot be installed due to missing dependencies"

"There are no installable providers of cdparanoia >=alpha9.827.1 for djplay-0.5.0-1.i386[_kprview_temporary]"

Conflict resolution:
[radio button] Ignore this requirement just here
[radio button] Do not install Dj play

----------------------------------------------

This is the version I have installed:

>cdparanoia --version
cdparanoia III release 9.8 (March 23, 2001)
(C) 2001 Monty <monty@xiph.org> and Xiphophorus
-------------------------------------------------

I also need to install libmad>=0.15.1 and swh plugins.

I can't believe YaST can't do it all on its own, I thought that was the reason for its existence??? :(

Maybe I need more installation sources?? This is what I currently have:

http://ftp.ale.org/pub/suse/update/10.2
http://packman.unixheads.com/suse/10.2
http://software.opensuse.org/downloa.../openSUSE_10.2
ftp://download.nvidia.com/%2fopensuse/10.2
cd://?devices=/dev/hdc
------------------------------------------------

Any help will be appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My last resort would be to give up on SuSE 10.2 and switch to ubuntu or maybe debian since I heard DJPLay has been installed on those distros without any issues. ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
