Unhappy Unknown VIA SouthBridge, disabling DMA

I've tried many times to get SUSE installed, adjusted my bios, everything.

But I keep getting the following error when I tell it to install, and just before it gets to the icon with the PCI-card picture, it says something about having no hard drive, or CD drive.

I'm very new to linux and only know the basic commands.

I pushed Alt-Ctrl-F3 and it said: Unknown VIA SouthBridge, disabling DMA, somewhere near the bottom, I assume this isn't good, I'm also thinking it's the cause of not finding any of my drives (it finds my External Hard drive).

I've tried Loading Modules, all the VIA ones I can see including the SATA one.

There seems to be a few patches for Red Hat for this problem, and they look very complicated. Is there anything for Suse?

I'm using a VIA chipset (obviously).
A SATA Hard Drive.
A IDE DVD Drive.
P4 3.2Ghz.
1 GB Ram.
and a GeForce 7300 GS.

Thanks.

I would suggest that you get a copy of the Knoppix 5.1 DVD and try running it -- it is a liveDVD and in my experience it finds practically everything. Once it is up and running, you can run: lspci -- the output will tell you exactly what VIA southbridge you have and all the other parts of your chipset. if you then come back here and post more detail -- I or someone else should be able to help you with Suse.

Hope this helps
