Unable to update to 10.2 - cannot read package data
Hi,
Recently, I purchased a VPS that came installed with openSUSE 10.0. Using YaST, I was able to upgrade it to openSUSE 10.1 without any problems (the "System Update" detected that I wanted to upgrade it to 10.1), but I'm now trying to get it up to 10.2, and I can't seem to get it to upgrade for some weird reason. In my installation source, I have inst-source media via FTP (currently ftp://mirrors.kernel.org) for 10.0, 10.1, and 10.2. I have tried a few different mirrors, so I know it is not a problem with my mirror. Thanks! Splenden (Note to previous readers: I updated this to make it a little more descriptive.) |
I never upgrade an operating system to a significantly new version. SuSE 10.2 has had a lot of problems fix with previous v10 versions. I advise that you install from scratch. Install on a clean partition. Don't try to carry anything over from the previous installation.

I ended up having the VPS provider re-image the VPS to openSUSE 10.0. It's been working good so far.
