Unable to log in to SUSE 9.3; /usr/lib/ problem

Just crashed my SUSE installation, it would seem. I was attempting to get iscan working for my Epson scanner, and I was following the directions here

So after entering:

# echo "export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/">/etc/profile.d/

# chmod 755 /etc/profile.d/

# echo "setenv LD_PRELOAD /usr/lib/">/etc/profile.d/iscanlib.csh

# chmod 755 /etc/profile.d/iscanlib.csh
and log out, I am no longer able to log in under my user account or as root. However, when I attempt failsafe boot, I get this message whenever I attempt almost any command:

"error while loading /usr/lib/ cannot open shared object file. No such file or directory"

Please help me fix this! What can I do?

Please ignore this last message. Problem solved by deleting /etc/profile.d/iscanlib.csh and /etc/profile.d/ via Ubuntu live CD.
