UMAX 610P Scanner and SUSE 10.0 OSS

I have been trying to get my old scanner working with SUSE 10 but although the scanner is recognised and even operates during boot-up, when I come to use the Kooka programe (again the scanner is recognised) but on pressing the scan button in the programme the scanner begins to operaye for about 1-2 seconds and stops. then Kooka looses the scan buttons and will not operate.

Any suggestion ? your help is most appreciated. Thanks.
Steve

Kooka doesn't work on my system and I have yet to figure out why - that is why I am search this site. However, xsane works. The problem may be with Kooka and Suse as oppossed to Suse and the scanner. Try using Yast to set up the scanner, then use xsane & gimp.
