Turning off the GUI

Hi,

Is it possible to turn off the GUI in OpenSUSE? Ive just installed it and its auto booting into the grapical system, as im using it for a server i dont really want this, just command mode will do me fine. But i dont want to get rid of the GUI system in case i need it, Can it be like slackware so i can just use StartX when required?

Thanks
Jack

Yes. You need to edit the /etc/inittab file. you'll want to edit the line id:5:initdefualt: near the top and change the number 5 to 3. If don't want to reboot, type init3 from a termial to drop down to a gui less environment.
