the realplayer 10 does not work for my suse 9.2

for realplayer bin installation

give it the path you already gave it
say yes to system wide links and type in /usr for last question (don't worry if the thing you type looks like /u.sr or similar - it's what you type (/usr) that counts)
then launch it from the command line /usr/local/RealPlayer/realplay and follow the steps to enable browser helpers

i ran the command u gave me as root: # chmod 755 /opt/kde3/bin/kde-config
the permission status changed becoz i could 'cat' the kde-config as user
and then should i run realplay?
i did, but nothig is changed
i am sorry i made u guys tired. if u like we can continue some other time?

Are you saying that you ran realplay as user and root and neither one worked? Did the results of each change? I'd have expected the 'kde-config: command not found' to go away.

Just a faint idea:

The setup manual of realplayer tells that at first start some configurations will be done. If you now started realplayer as root the first time (which didn't work, as we all know) maybe some configurations files have been created though. And as a user, you cannot access these files, because they have been created with root permissions. Did you get the point ?

Anyway, I repeat myself when I recommend to install realplayer as user into your homedirectory. No root permissions required at all! Why don't you give it a try? It has worked nicely in my case (I didn't want to install it, but I got curious while reading this thread).

yes thats true...but just to try what abisko00 siad (post#37) to try installing in my home directory.
i also gave a hopeless try to .rpm
my system is crazy now, i said maybe it doesn't understand anymore! lol

I was talking about the *.bin file, where it is not necessary to be root! But it is very stange that even this does not work. You seem to have a permissions problem. The only way-out I can think of, is to change the ownership of the *.bin file before attempting to install it.

thank u all for ur efforts. i think i have done something to main files by a mistake!( although i dont remember so) , its better to install suse again

I've just installed Suse 9.1 Pro on a machine and installed RealPlayer10 and it wouldn't work.
I made a shortcut to it on the taskbar and it still wouldnt work.
In the end I discovered that for some reason it is installing itself into /usr/local/RealPlayer and setting the dir permission so that a user cannot see it's contents.
So I did
chmod -R 755 /usr/local/RealPlayer

...and now it works as expected.
