This thread has been so helpful in getting something to sort of work. I hand crafted my XF86Config file by cut and paste to get the ATI driver to work. Well sort of.

I get the display, and if you run the fglrxinfo, it does show the correct driver as being installed.

The problem is that it doesn't work all that well. If I run any 3d GL application I get a screen with misplaced artifacts. For instance, if I run GL-117, the ground is drawn in the wrong order that makes flashing bits of ground appear all over the screen.

I am running a quite vanilla copy of SUSE9.2 that I installed last night. I have an ATI 9800pro card. Has anyone had any success with the driver in accelerated 3D graphics?

The other problem that I should mention is that when I swap between GUI and command line (CTRL-Alt-F1 and Ctrl-Alt-F7) the system locks and the top half of the graphic screen goes all corrupted. I think there might be a more underlying part to this problem.

Thanks,

I also have an ATI 9800 pro card and a recent install of suse9.2 on an asus a8v deluxe with AMD 64 3500+. Took a couple of attempts to get the display working properly. Only wanted to work when UseInternalAGPGART was no, otherwise I just got a blank screen.

fglrxinfo displays the correct driver and fgl_glxgears is giving a decent framerate. I also have the same problem in GL-117, although switching between console and GUI works fine.

I have some code that relies heavily on Open GL's fragment programs, so if they work perfect I will consider the installation successful.

Suse has released their own rpm's that encapsulate the new ATI drivers and install them properly

ftp://mirror.mcs.anl.gov/pub/suse/i3.../X/ATI/suse92/

just pick your architecture and follow the readme. Took me maybe 5 minutes to get direct rendering.

Cheers!
