Question sysinfo:/ stopped working after atomatic upgrade of the kernel in SuSE 10.3

Hi guys,

After automatic update this morning (kernel and kernel-source), the Konqueror sysinfo:/displays an error message. The message is I try to translate it from slovene): " while loading sysinfo:/ there was an error: the protocol process suddenly stopped working"

And now I cant see any information of my comp when i click on the desktop icon. Any idea of how to repair.

After a kernel upgrade you need to reboot.

Talking

Hi,
I did reboot, I even downgraded kernel, but nothing. There was another problem too. OpenOffice crashed too. I had no other possibility other that to reinstall the system. And during the installation I got the same error message when it comes to the point of mounting the disks. The installation stopped at the point where the sda1/NTFS/Windows /C has to be mounted. I tried to "fixmbr" from the windows CD and all I got was the message that there was not the system disk . So I had to format the complete disk and reinstall windows&SuSE. Now both systems are working again.

have the same problem with sysinfo but I don't like an idea to reload the whole system since everything I have to download from Internet. I have other problems after update to 10.3 :-( System looks better but so far gives me more troubles than older ones.

1. Fresh install with broken dependencies;
2; KDE does forget about FireFox after logout, but remembers rest of the session.
3; Apache didn't update properly -- new Apache with old modules;
and I believe it'll be more...

Red face

Hi tj_sorrow,

Yes there are many problems which were not in Rc1 version. By the way, I cant connect via wireless rt2500 PCMCIA card. That was possible and was working great in the RC1.

I just did the same, used the online update. Kernel updated, but now I have a few fails. I can't use my wireless for one thing.

Does anyone know how to revert to the previous Kernel?

Found this solution,

You need to have a copy of your installation CD.

http://www.creditcrunch.co.uk/forum/...?showtopic=831

It worked first time for me... except a few things had to be re-installed, like my wireless.

Why issue a kernel upgrade if it does not work? It should at least come with a warning.

My wlan0 is working. I do not know what happened, but it just works. No problem when booting into the system. Wlan connects immediatelly. I do not know why!!! There were some updates, maybe?? I have to say that I am not running the rt2500pci, which is embedded into the SUSE 10.3. I installed the last CVS driver from the web, followed the instructions there and that it is.

So, the above solution worked better for you than me?

Good to hear.
