Switching to SUSE

i rented a Linux for dummies from the libary and it came with a dvd with Fedora Core 3, Knoppix, SUSE, Debian, and Xandros...

anyhow i desided to install SUSE so i could follow along with the book, and it said it focuses on the desktop so ill give it a shot...

anyhow do i need to back anything up from Mandrake 2005SE? or will it "roll over" stuff... like my Emails, My Files file things like that....

not likely. installing a different distro is bound to mess with your files (if you do it on the same partitions) and probably it won't even allow you.

You could use the /home partition for more than one distro, but in that case you'd have to use different user names to avoid problems.

i see... so i a, going to pretty much reformat, and reinstall... just like outting a fresh copy on my PC...

well if i back up Mandrake with what ever the "backup wizard" is, will SUSE recognize it?

or is there any easier transition method?
and will it back up my emails?

1. You canīt install the Suse Live CD onharddisk.
2. You can download the DVD-Iso Images from www.opensuse.org, where you can find a mirror.
3. The next possibility is to buy the retail box.

There's also the iso downloads offered through LQ, but they don't offer the DVD, just 5 CDs.

You'll have to assign these. Did they work out of the box with Mandrake? Anyway, my buddy, Google found this in about 0.38 seconds...
