switching from kde to gnome in suse 10.0

Im new to linux and im wondering how to switch to gnome from kde? at the login in screen i clicked on session type but gnome is not on there, and i went into yast and installed the gnome packages, im assuming you have to do it in the command line? so if anyone could tell me how to switch between them i would appreciate it.

After installing the packages you didn't have, a DE needs to be added to the options menu, which is one of the only times you need to reboot. Once you reboot, it should be listed in the menu you found for "Session Type" when you logout.

What exactley is a DE? I have no idea? where at in the options menu?

Sorry, a DE is a Desktop Enviroment. Like Gnome and KDE. And when you installt hem they aren't added till boot.

Hey there.

Ok, Im facing a similar problem. I think i have installed the gnome desktop environment (how do I check?), and have reboot a couple of times, but not gnome option. Where is the 'option menu' and do I need to make changes to it?

I'm in Windows right now and can't give you exact instructions, but once you install it there should be an option in one of the buttons in the login screen.

Hey Peter,

Yeah, I've seen it before when I had Suse 9.x installed. but don't see it with Suse 10.0 installed. I was wondering if there is something that I have to manually configure before I can see it in the "type session" menu.
