suse10 kernel update issue

HI, Wondering if anyone can help me with a problem that I get when installing the latest Kernel security patch. This is one that fixes a number of security issues re XEn ,etc. I have tried to install this patch on several occasions, mainly since 1/1/06, and I get the same problem. It renders my System unusable, I do not gey any YAST messages to check my configuration, but on rebooting it always fails to find the boot image on the disk partitions, the quoted partitions are where the boot info should be found. Sorry for a garble question, but am no techie. Any help would be appreciated. At present I have put a taboo on installing the patch, but am concerned re the security of my system.

What kind of patch is that? One from SUSE (online update) or a self-patched/compiled kernel?

1st case: Are you using Lilo? Then you need to run lilo to apply the changes and make the new kernel bootable.

2nd case: Did you include the filesystem driver (and HDD controller) module into initrd?
