Suse Yast wont work
 

Hi,

I installed Suse 9.1 pro without any prob, It was working fine for the first few days, apart from my Speedtouch modem not wanting to work normally, but I sorted that with the little script that I used for Mandrake.

I loaded up YOU to update, since 9.1 is kinda getin on a bit in terms of a Distro lifetime.

Everything updated, and I restarted my comp just to be sure everything updated was loaded. I now have a problem with Yast. I try accessing it through control center, or through Yast on my menu, it asks for my root pw then does nothing.

If a click on an rpm package it asks to install with yast, then nothing. This is through both my own user account and from root.

When I try running it from the terminal it says that yast2-qt is uninstalled but not working, then yast2-ncurses is installed but not working. I tried to reinstall these but it still said the same, and I also uninstalled yast, but there was a load of dependencies, which would take me forever to uninstall, expecially if it wouldn't fix the problem.

Is there a way to uninstall yast, including all the dependent files with 1 command, and would it fix this problem?

Or is there another solution to this? I can no longer use YOU because this is related to Yast and therefore fails to run.

I think one of the YOU updates breaks this on new installs after updates. I believe it's related to kdelibs3 or kdebase3. I know it's a pain
in the but. I got around this by downloading at work and then bringing the updates home on CD or USB pendrives.

You will need to load the rpms from a terminal session by running:

rpm -Uvh filename.rpm

I believe after you install all the rpms you will also need to run (as root)

ldconfig
rpm --rebuilddb
SuSEconfig

Once you get the base packages down YaST should work again.

I personally keep a CD with folders by Date of updates and place all rpms in it so that that if I need to reinstall or load on another system
