SUSE Release 10 RC1 Release Candidate 1 available
HI everone --if you have a decent ADSL/ T2 system the release candidate RC1 is now available.
This Release Candidate is likely to be around 99.9% the same as the official retail / public release which will go live in October so definitely worth a try. Judging by how I've found the Beta 4 I'm grabbing this one before the hungry hoardes have a go. Will be testing today on a spare laptop. I can always revert back to Beta 4 or 9.3 if it doesn't work but I'm expecting this to be the BEST YET. http://www.linuxcompatible.org/SUSE_..._1_s54537.html have fun Cheers -K |
I am sure they will release a version of opensuse that corresponds to the commercial Suse 10 release but it won't contain proprietary software.

Is there a way to install without having to get all 5 disc? Seems like a waste since the official will be out soon. Ftp install or just use first disc?

Hi 1kyle,
I am testing the new release. It works excellent ( at least for me). I have upgraded my 10.0 beta4 with synaptic which installed all new packages. Until now I did not get any error messages and checking the packages installed, everything seems to be correct. |

I haven't tried this myself so it could be "Bovine Scatology" but in thory it should work -- read the README's first. I've got a nice fast Broadband connection so getting the discs doesn't take too long once I get actually logged on to the mirror. I'm actually installing now on a laptop while I am posting this. Cheers -K |
Multimedia
Multimedia doesn't seem to work properly in 10.0 RC1.
In 9.3 one had to install a separate Multimedia-package via YOU to fix the problem. Are there any similar packages for 10.0 you would know off???? |
What exactly is NOT working -- Audio / Video ???
Cheers -K |
it's audio. Amarok, kaffeine and mplayer don't play mp3s or wavs. Also, no program, including Kscd, seems to be able to play audio-cds.

Opensuse 10 is still a beta, well rc1 so you wont get mutch support but this is what i have done.
bmp-plugins-mad gstreamer-plugins-extra-mad k3b-mad kdemultimedia3-mad libtunepimp-mad mad mad-devel python-mad xine-mad xmms-lib-mad That are the packages in "multimedia pack 1" for suse 9.3 They get mp3 playback enabled. I had allready updated kde to the newest version in 9.3 (same opensuse 10uses) so i knew most of them might work. Then i went to " ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/sup...3/applications " And found most of the packages there, just go to " www.freshmeat.net " to find those missing or to " www.rpmfind.net " also serch for "w32codec-all" to enable divix playback and libdvdcss to enable dvd playback. You still have to update libxine to make it able to play restricted formats, go to " http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/xine/ " and update libxine to the newest version, if that is not enough then update xine-ui allso . |
