SUSE Linux, kernel upgrades and VT8237 chipsets...

I've been running into problems when upgrading the kernel/modutils/mkinitrd with my SUSE 9.1Pro box. Past couple of times I tried it, it doesn't boot up (gets as far as the HDD, then starts complaining about dropped interrupts and that's it - by the way, I'm using a SATA HDD (160GB)). When it has been sucessful, it's not been able to find the network adaptor, and starts complaining of interrupt problems on IRQ 15.

Advice?
