Suse and watching a DVD movie

I just installed Suse 10.0 for 64 bit AMD processor and was wondering if there is anyway to install drivers to watch a personally owned DVD movie?

get xine from packman:
http://packman.links2linux.org/?action=124
http://packman.links2linux.org/?action=125
http://packman.links2linux.org/?action=491

also you will need libdvdcss, or try to find libdvdutil which provides libdvdcss and libdvdcss2
you can get the version for 9.3 64-bit
ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-jmorris/suse93/libdvdutil-1.2.8-4.x86_64.rpm
or compile libdvdcss from sources

If you had searched for the answer (just search for "suse DVD") you'd have found your answer at 23:47 -GMT5

I did and I got 3 hits and mine came up as one of them. The other thread was confusing and no one came back and responded whether it worked or not. Let me give an example. On this thread there are 3 links. Am I to assume I down load everything in relation to those 3 links?

My guess is yes, and then I must download them in order?

I tried to install the very first package named "libxine1-1.1.0-12.pm.1.x86_64.rpm" and got an error that it was not a part of my medium packages. Must I remove my medium sources?

Download all components from packman to your disk (packman is recently slow and has other unexpected problems, so local reposidory is the solution)
if you have set packman site as Yast resource. Disable for a moment. add/refresh local folder where you have downloaded all xine stuff. Install using Yast.

Work in YaST. Add Packman site to repositories like so:
http://slackerlx.blogspot.com/2005/1...e-in-suse.html
Disable your CD/DVD repository, leaving only Packman for current update
Then type in search field "xine", it will give you options to update existing xine, kaffeine and so on. Mark them for update.
Search for xvid, divx, w32codec, mplayer (if needed). Mark and install
Download libdvdcss2 from here:
http://download.videolan.org/pub/libdvdcss/1.2.9/
choose the right one for your distro and install it. This library you'll need to play all coomercial and encrypted DVDs with your players

P.S. Don't forget to enable back CD/DVD repository after update

Good Luck

I am a little lost. I have all the RPM's in a folder I named DVD drivers. (15 total RPM's)

I have not set packman site as a Yast resource.

When I open Yast Control Center, all I have is 8 different selections.
1) Online Update
2) Installation Source
3) Media Check
4) System Update
5) Software Management
6) Installation into Directory
7) Patch CD Update
8) Virtual Machine Installation

Naturally I go to Installation Source in Yast and it leads me to the Software Source Media Center inside here I see my "Suse LINUX version 10.0dvd:///;devices=/dev/hdd highlighted in blue, status says ON and refresh says OFF".

From here I go to the ADD button and I add my local directory where these RPMS reside. Now my question is, do I disable "Suse LINUX version 10.0dvd:///;devices=/dev/hdd highlighted in blue, status says ON and refresh says OFF" or leave it there when I go to install those software RPM drivers?

Simple question. Was the screenshot not clear enough of how to add the repository???

All I see is a photo and since I already have all the packages downloaded on my disk drive, the other method seemed a lot easier to do, so I thought. On the link you sent, it shows a picture (a snap shot), but it does not explain what HTML address to add.

So I went what what I thought seemed to be the easiest way to do it.

When I try to install these 15 RPM packages individually, I no longer get an error message like I did before adding my directory these files are stored at, but I get a message that "Installation source not refreshed". I have no idea what this means and can't figure out what to do.

I appreciate any advice or input, tips suggestions....

1. create folder ~/xine
2. download all software I told you to download to the folder above
3. Yast ->Change source of Installation -> press button "Add" and select "Local source" -> browse to the folder xine , mark it and press o.k. You will see an error stating that "There is no product information available at the given location. ....." Press "continue" next press "Finish" (right botom corner). Before pressing continue, you can temporarily disable online packman site
4. Do not close Yast yet. Go to:
Install and remove software -> enter "xine" in the search line
check all you need (press Version tab to select packman version, not SuSE). Install

Assuming that you downloaded all components, the above is all you need.

Broch first and foremost, all I did was download the RPM packages indivdually. I did everything you said to do. I created a folder named exactly "~/Xine" and moved all the RPM's here from my folder and placed it there. You lose me when you say press the version tab and select Packman version.

Broch how do I add the packman version adress, or better yet. What is the actual address? I tried the one inside that snapshot that other indivdual gave and that clock just spins and spins and nothing every happens.

Is this the address? "http://packman.links2linux.org/index.php4?action=124&vn=3"

I am running AMD 64 bit processor on Suse 10.0 for 64 bit.

1) What do I enter in the Server Name box is what I am asking?

2) What do I enter in the Directory of Server box?

These are real simple questions. And let me explain my thoughts here.

Under SlackerLX suggestions his ksnap picture shows the server name entered as "packman.iu.bremen.de" and it shows directory on server as "/suse/10.0" , well when I enter what his picture snap shot shows, the installation clock spins and spins around in circles for a long time.

I explained, that because packaman is slow, there is no point od adding it to Yast.

Assuming any (not only local) installation:

Quote:
install and remove software -> enter "xine" in the search line
the panel above is split into two parts.

The right part is divided horizontally: in the upper part you will see all xine stuff. In the lower part you will see tabs:
Description, Technical data, Dependencies, Versions
click on "Versions" select (if there is more that one option) version desired for installation.
That is all

Broch, when I do exactly as you describe and I type the word Xine in the search box a plethora of "lib" items appear in the summary area down below.

If I click on versions tab it shows a little yellow box with the name amarok-xine on it appeards and the categories below it are as follows and both are checked.
- 1.3.1-7 i586 Suse Linux Version 10.0 (which I presume to be my 7 CD's that came for the 32 bit version)
-1.3.1-7 x86_64 Suse Linux Version (which i presume to be my DVD)

Both of those items are checked and I can't uncheck them, nor can I select anything else under versions tab.

Is there something I am completely missing?
