Wink Suse 9.3 Professional: cannot login !!

Hi everyone, installed 9.3 Suse Pro, But....
But at the end, when I start to access Suse 9.3, it ask me :
login : ok accepted
Password : ok accepted
but at the end Suse writes: mylogin@linux:>

where, after mylogin@linux , between : and > there is a little, little wave, a little bit upper, that i cannot type with this keyboard ( but this is not the problem).

The problem is that, after Suse writes : mylogin@linux:littlewave >
I don't know what to type to access the program !!!!!!!

I tried to write my login , password, User Name, but nothing!
I do not have access to the program ! ( Maybe becouse when I installed it I wasn't connected to Internet?? I think it was not a sure thing to do before cheking Suse's settings.)

Big Thanks to anyone can help !!!!!

Uhm... it sounds like you logged in just fine. You are looking at a command line prompt... interesting. You *should* have been prompted with a graphical login. Sorry, I'll need more info before I can help with that.

2 things...
"littlewave" is properly called "tilda" ~. You can find it in the upper lefthand corner of your keyboard.
Once you are at mylogin@linux:~ >
type "startx"
You shouldn't have to do this... there must be something wrong with your installation.

actualy this has happend to others - me that is. 1st install: used KDE, everything is fine. shutdown - went to sleep - next day when I start the pc : KDE - i get a ugly graphic mode (X is running) - so i type: exec KDE and there I go: KDE desk, but no full screen (I don't know how to that or if its possible)
-- at this point I think "its from the install, I'll do it again"
2nd instal - used Gnome - maybe theres some KDE problem - but the same thing happend
--thinking... it's not loading KDE or GNOME, just the X
I'd be happy with any help

(edit) just realized my prob is different couse Machine here starts the X but not the KDE or GNOMe, nor any settings related to those, but it did remember my internet conection setings )

It sounds like you installed Suse with the default runlevel set to 3 rather than 5. Technically, there is nothing wrong with your installation, the only difference is that instead of automatically starting your session in X, it is starting in the console session (ie, the command line) but the key point is that Yes, you are logged in. (As for me, I prefer starting in a console session.)

In any event, to start X, as JordanH indicated, just enter
Code:
startx
or you could change your default runlevel -- J.W.

Hi,
I've just installed SUSE 9.3 and after it working fine for a bit, I now cannot log in to X. The computer boots up to a (ugly) login screen, at which I types my username and password, press enter, the login box disappears, a little text "xconsole" appears at the top left, and then nothing happens. On checking the processes with top, I get no action happening with X. I'm very new to SUSE and I'm really not sure what to do about this other than reinstall.
