Suse 9.3 Hung up
Is there a way to check out any hung processes. I can log into the console and everything on my server is working fine. I just cant log into KDE or gnome i can get into windowmaker but not kde or gnome. I think shomething is hung up in the background and after i log on it just sits on trying to initialize the desktop. I know if i probably restarted the server it would solve my problems but i dont want to resort to that yet being there are about 20 people connected to it.
Any suggestions on a way i can bring kde back up to login to it?? |
Well, I know you can use ps -aux to see the processes that are running. Then you can use the kill command to end a process. Not sure how to tell what might be hung though...

I found out it wasnt really a login issue at all. The service Fam (File Acess Monitoring) went out of control and it was just eating up every resource i had.
I was able to restart it and it seems to be working fine. Its been on and up for 20days strong so far so lets hope i can keep it up for another 20. Im not sure what caused this but i was able to check it by pulling up top in the console and checking the status on it. |
