I can not answer to why you cannot use your keyboard, but there is a simple workaround to be be able to install suse 9.3 on this laptop. Simply attach an external monitor to your m1437g, and turn off the laptops own monitor (Fn+F4). Then, the installation should run fine. I have tried this, and it does in fact work fine.

Yes, I have ubuntu hoary running on my m1437g. Works almost out of the box. With a breezy release just around the corner, I guess it will work even better as the laptop functionality has been enhanced in this version. A bit tweaking to get it fully functional though. I've heard reports on opensuse running fine aswell. It's a good computer, so I'm pretty sure you'll be satisfied with it.

Thank you Tuco for your answer. I just switch my old notebook (Gericom) to Ubuntu Breeze (from Mandriva), it is excelent. A good surprise!
