LucidParody

This is from a working Redhat 9 system

lsmod reads
Code:
snd-pcm-oss 45284 0 (autoclean)
snd-mixer-oss 16472 0 (autoclean) [snd-pcm-oss]
snd-intel8x0 24196 0 (autoclean)
snd-pcm 90048 0 (autoclean) [snd-pcm-oss snd-intel8x0]
snd-page-alloc 10388 0 (autoclean) [snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm]
snd-timer 20932 0 (autoclean) [snd-pcm]
snd-mpu401-uart 5488 0 (autoclean) [snd-intel8x0]
snd-rawmidi 19680 0 (autoclean) [snd-mpu401-uart]
snd-seq-device 6368 0 (autoclean) [snd-rawmidi]
snd-ac97-codec 51704 0 (autoclean) [snd-intel8x0]
snd 45956 0 (autoclean) [snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm snd-timer snd-mpu401-uart snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device snd-ac97-codec]
Notice no "soundcore" or "i810_audio" might be worth removing these modules and give it another try obviously it can only use one module for sound, it appears to be trying to use "i810_audio" and "snd-intel8x0"

Just a suggestion

Pete

I don't have sound whenever I boot up. I have to go the Yast and redetect the sound card. That's usually enough, yet there are times when that redetection brings the volume down to zero.

so, what you people suggest is to disable the onboard soundcard and buy a PCI one that is well supported, like Sound Blaster?

that's not a solution when the same system works fine with other Linux distor or WIndows !

si there a way to configure this bloody onboard AC97 Intel 8x0 (Analog Device) sound card under SuSE 9.2?

Hi,

I too am having the same problems with the same intel8x0 driver and device for a toshiba 4600 laptop. The thing is that my sound was working perfectly until I started to use skype and played around with the configuration to try and get skype to work.

I came across a script that helps to give quick output in a terminal if that helps at all!

Hi,
I have similar problems with a VT8237 chipset. I can get analog audio out with Kaffeine and also ac3 output from the digital output after installing a52dec. Mplayer refuses to make a digital sound =(. However, I can't get stereo output digitally even with xine. This annoying since the analog audio quality isn't worth much.

for digital output for audio CDs in the config settings for KSCD you can select Digital output

see if you can choose digital output with your player, if not there must be done some settings with your driver
