I have an ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 running SuSE 9.2 Pro. When I try to change from the RV350 NP drivers to the fgl8x00 drivers they always revert to the old RV350 NP drivers when I restart KDE. I've never been able to enable 3D. It always gives me:

3D Acceleration Impossible
The installed card cannot use
hardware 3D/OpenGL
acceleration.

How can I enable 3D?

SuSE 9.2 Pro/Windows XP Pro
AMD Athalon 64 2800+MHz
512MB RAM
128MB ATI [b]Mobility]/b] Radeon 9700
Uniwill 258kA0 based laptop

My card is actually not listed there. I'm a little warry of attempting to install drivers for a PC on my laptop. Is there a difference between the drivers for the ATI Radeon 9700 and the ATI Mobility Radeon 9700? I know in windows there is a difference.

I am running the new drivers on SuSE 9.2 Pro with:

Acer Aspire 2012WLMi
ATI Radeon 9700 Mobility 64MB
512MB Ram
Centrino

Drivers work great for me.

Simply download the driver from ATI http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/l...ctsLINUXdriver
for SuSE 9.2 make sure to choose the X.Org 6.8 download.

cp /etc/X11/XF86Config /etc/X11/XF86Config-before-ati

rpm -Uh --force fglrx_6_8_0-8.8.25-1.i386.rpm

fglrxconfig

vi /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

change the driver"Keyboard" to driver"kbd"
save changes

cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /etc/X11/XF86Config

then restart X (ctrl-alt-backspace)

if it fails ... you can always

cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-before-ati /etc/X11/XF86Config

and startx again

hopethis helps

Success!

The 64bit drivers supplied by SuSE worked. I followed the directions supplied by the associated README to the letter. My system is as follows:

SuSE 92. Pro/Windows XP
AMD Athalon 64 2800+MHz
512MB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 128MB
Uniwill 258KA0 based laptop

SuSE Mirror list
The i386 and x86_64 bit drivers can be found in the following directory on your favorite mirror:
/suse/i386/suplementary/X/ATI/
Pick which verison of SuSE you have and whether you want i386 or x86_64 and you're set.

Before installation of the drivers I got about 440FPS with glxgears. After installation I got about 1590FPS.

Hope everyone will be able to get their graphics working as easily as I did.
